-
- MADA is expanding the MacApp.Tech$ forum to America Online. The Association
- looks at this new service as a means to substantially expand the support and
- awareness of MacApp in the developer community. We also see it as a possible
- lower-cost alternative for those developers that are having difficulty with the
- recent addition of KC charges on AppleLink.
-
- It is expected that most everyone on AppleLink will continue to participate in
- MacApp.Tech$ discussions on AppleLink. But, if you choose, you can participate
- via America Online.
-
- Over the course of the next few weeks, MADA will be setting up a new
- MacApp.Tech$/MADA forum on America Online. This AO forum will eventually
- replace the current MADA BBS. An official announcement and details on how to
- sign up for this new service will be linked to you in about two weeks. If you
- are a MADA member, you will also receive this information in the mail.
-
- All memos and files sent to MacApp.Tech$ on AppleLink will be automatically
- cross-posted to the America Online forum. Memos and files sent to MacApp.Tech$
- on America Online will be automatically cross-posted to MacApp.Tech$ on
- AppleLink. MacApp.Tech$ archives and The Class Room on AppleLink will also be
- available in the MADA forum on America Online. ***NOTE: Should anyone on
- AppleLink for any reason not want their memo or file posted to MacApp.Tech$ on
- AO, they can place an asterisk (*) as the first character in the subject, and
- that mail will not be cross-posted to the AO forum.
-
- The MADA forum on America Online will be accessable to all America Online
- subscribers, with the exception of a limited-access folder for MADA members
- only. This service will not support sending private mail from an AO account to
- an individual AppleLink address, or vice versa.
-
- So what are the advantages of expanding MacApp.Tech$ to AO? Several:
-
- • AO accounts are available to all MacApp developers, unlike AppleLink accounts
- which are available to Apple Partners and Associates only.
-
- • It's easy to use, and offers one of the best Macintosh user interfaces of any
- commercial online service.
-
- • It may be slightly less expensive to use than AppleLink. When you register
- for AO (by calling a special 1-800 number to be set up next week), you will be
- sent a free start-up kit, which has been electronically coded as a MADA
- sign-up. There is no registration, initiation or software fee. You will be
- billed monthly for connect time at the rate of $5.00 non-prime, $10.00 prime.
- First hour each month is free. There are NO KC charges. The normal monthly AO
- membership fee of $5.95 will be waived for the first six months of usage.
-
- • Beyond being a good deal for accessing MacApp-related tech support, AO
- provides a host of services which you might find useful, such as stock market
- reports, weather, airline reservations via EAASY SABRE, news wire,
- public-domain software libraries, etc.
-
- Look for more details to be posted to MacApp.Tech$ within the next two weeks.
